Does Breaching Of Sinus By A Molar Cause Sinus Congestion?

I have been experiencing sinus congestion for several months. This has been accompanied by ear pain. I have complete several rounds of antibiotics and prednisone for infection. Today, tooth pain led me to my dentist. X-ray shows maxillary sinus breeched by 2nd molar. Root canal initiated. Is this a probable cause of sinus issues?
