Does Blood Pressure Elevate Slightly During Pregnancy?

Does your blood pressure elevate slightly during pregnancy? My blood pressure is well within normal range still, but it is elevated from yesterday. I am also sick with a sore throat, no other symptoms. This is my third child and my blood pressure was on the low end of normal with the other two.

Hello and welcome,
I am Dr Madhuri a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and will be helping you with your queries.

A condition peculiar to pregnancy is called preeclampsia. In this blood pressure tends to rise during pregnancy and the reason is still unknown.

A single reading of greater than 140/90 mm of mercury does not have any meaning. So if you did get a reading above this range, please keep a blood pressure record every 6 hours for the next two days. If the readings are more than 140/90 mm of mercury then you need to see your doctor and get further evaluation for the cause and rule out preeclampsia.

Do not worry as transient high readings are common and may be due to stress due to sickness.
Have a safe and happy pregnancy.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
