Does Blocked Salivary Gland Cause Numb And Tender Face On That Side?

I attended my GP Wednesday complaining of swollen glands and a lump just under my jaw line. I was told my salivary gland was blocked by a stone (as I have been experiencing dry mouth) however in the past 24hrs my face cheek temple forehead and ear on the same side has become very tender to touch and numb, what could be the cause of this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swollen sub-mandibular salivary gland can be due to 2 reasons, one of which is a stone obstruction the duct of the salivary gland leading to accumulation of saliva into the salivary gland and causing expansion of the gland..
Other reason can be infection in the salivary gland..
While tenderness and numbness over the face, cheek, temple, ear and forehead can be due to either any dental infection or tooth infection or an be due to nerve compression or injury related to nerve supplying the area..
Obstruction of the salivary gland does not commonly cause such symptoms and is most probably a nerve related issue..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do a through clinical evaluation and look for any disturbances related to teeth, jaw joint, salivary gland and nerve supplying the area for a correct diagnosis as the treatment can only be accurately planned once the diagnosis is confirmed..
As of now you can take painkillers like diclofenac or tylenol to relieve pain.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
