General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, a diet like a beetroot or its juice, certain vegetables, and licorice can cause red colored stool. Normal stool usually is light to dark brown.

In addition to certain foods, the red colored stool can be due to bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract caused by hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease), infections of intestine, diverticular disease, arteriovenous malformations (abnormal communications between arteries and veins in the wall of the intestine that rupture), certain medications and cancer.

I advise you to consult your doctor for further evaluation to rule out the above causes if the color of your stool does not change even after one day or so.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
