Does A Uterine Wall Thickness Of 7 Mm Require Medical Attention?

I have pap results indicating atypical endometrial cells, and my doctor has recommended a pelvic ultrasound. I am 57, post menopausal for over 4 years, no hormone replacement and always normal gynecologic history. Two normal pregnancies; no miscarriages or surgery. I did have an intrauterine device when I was young, and had to have it removed via D&C. Based on the post below, the reason for the ultrasound is to determine the thickness of the uterine wall. If the wall is 7mm, what is the next step? what is a colposcopy?

Hello, Thanks for the
The trans vaginal sonography is done to determine the thickness of endometrium. This done to assess the risk of uterine cancer. According to the studies in woman of 50 years if endometrial thickness is >11 mm then the risk of cancer is 6.7% and biopsy may be needed. But if the thickness is 7 mm thickness there is no question of biopsy.
Colposcpy is a procedure where a microscope is used to observe the cervix. It is done in order to visualize the cervix better with more illumination. A routine speculum is used to observe cervix and a microscope placed near by is able to visuvalize the cervix with more clarity. It is a very simple procedure. Thanks.
