Does A UTI Cause Bleeding With Urination And Frequent Painful Urination?
I had sudden onset bleeding with urination. Then pain with frequent urination. I have had a TAH w/BSO. The er took a sample, but there was no urine only blood. The er did a vaginal exam and there was no blood in the vaginal canal. I was given iv antibiotics in the er and sent home on antibiotics and pain meds. Blood and pain are gone. However, there was no real answer to why all the blood, no real f/up. It is being blamed on a UTI. Could a UTI have such a sudden/severe onset?
It looks like you had a severe UTI, women have a short urethra and hence are more prone to UTI, sex may also cause UTI. Due to shorter urethra, bacteria have access to the urinary bladder if left untreated, may infect the kidneys as well.
Cloudy, dark or blood in the urine and burning micturition is indicative of UTI. Continue to take the medications prescribed by your treating doctor. Low dose of antibiotics for some days helps avoid repeat infections. Avoid public washrooms, sex for a couple of days, maintain hygiene, urinate after sex and drink plenty of water.

As per my clinical experience, UTI will give blood in urine only when there is significant amount of cystitis or urethritis.
In rest of the conditions, underlying calculus or gravels in the urinary system are the second most common condition responsible for the same.
