Does UTI Treatment Require Antibiotics?

Hi I am 12 weeks pregnant and got a urine test done. The result shows luecocytes 2-3 hpf and Epithelial cells 2-3 hpf. Rest of the results show negative with ph- 7 and Specific gravity 1.005. I don't know what to interpret from this report, do I have a urinary tract infection which needs to be treated with antibiotics?

You have what is known as 'asymptomatic bacteruria'. This is a urinary tract infection (UTI); however the patient has no symptoms.

Asymptomatic bacteruria in pregnancy is a very serious condition and upto 30% of pregnant women with this condition develop acute pyelonephritis (infection of the kidney). Therefore, it should be treated even if there are no complaints. Nitrofurantoin is the recommended antibiotic and it is safe in pregnancy.
