Does Prednisone Help In Treating Shingles?

I believe I have shingles. I thought it was hives, but after seeing a physician, I was given prescriptions for Favir (prednisone). I have shingles on my back -- two separate long lines down my back, and across my chest, so both sides of my torso. I have a poor immune system due to the highest level of Endometriosis (Stage 4). Will Prednisone clear up the shingles? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

You are not likely to have shingles most likely as shingles remain unilateral position and you have lesions over both sides of the torso. You are likely having dermatitis condition from various conditions such as allergy or else. Steroids work best by suppressing the immune response in such situations and hence, you should continue the same as per the guidance of your primary care and remain in regular follow up with him.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
