Does Prednisone Causes Any Side Effects?

Thank you, for your time. I just started Prednisone, 10 mg, 2 tablets once a day, and I had a bad side effects. Headache, high blood pressure, and palpitation. My doctor told me to take 1 tablet for 2 days and stop it. What will be the side effects if stopping it right away? Sonia

Hi! I had gone through your question and i understand your concern .

You should not stop Prednisone right away , you have to follow your treating doctor advise by stoping it slowly.

Prednisone is a synthetic cortisonic medication that stimulate adrenal glands to produce cortisol .Normaly your Pituitary gland and your brain do the stimulation and this is called Hypothalamic-pituitary -adrenal axis .

When you use Prednison you decrease the function of this axis, and will have the symptoms of the lack of cortisol,
_weakness, fatigue, faint , dizziness ,anxiety , insomia ,nause , vomiting , diarrhea , headache , slow heart rate (bradycardia), abdominal pain .

Wish you good health .
