Does Impetigo keep recurring even after completing a course of antibiotics and keeping hygiene ?

Hi, I am writing because of a problem i have. One year ago, I was diagnosed with impetigo that had developed on my lips and around, around the nose area as well as my chin. It was my first time and after being given oral antibiotics(Teva Cloxacillin) and ointment(Fucidin), I was cleared after weeks of dealing with this. 6 months later, it returned, cultures for MRSA in my nose turned up negative and the ointments (including muciprocin) were of no help. The antibiotic that had helped before had no effect. After 6 weeks of back and firths with my doctor and 2 rounds of Keflex, i was cleared. I have had 2 more similar situations and now no sooner am I off the keflex does the infection return. I maintain a pretty hygienic lifestyle ( some say I m a germaphobe) and no doctor has been able to tell me why this keeps happening. Before sores appear, I am fatigued and usually have a headache and slight discomfort/ fever. My doctor seems to think i am just unlucky however, this is not sufficient for me. I want this gone, forever!!

Hi,

You develop impetigo off and on..right? The relapsing impetigo may be due to poor immunity. Consult the dermatologist and have full array of investigations to get knowledge about your physical and immunological status.

I think, you may be having poor immunity. All steps should be taken to improve the immunity like nutritious diet, exercise, yoga, walking, vitamins, protein and minerals supplements, etc. Take treatment under observation of expert dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

My daughter is Three and has been diagnosed as having impetigo, three weeks ago. Because it was close to Christmas the doctor prescribed oral antibiotics which was taken until the course finished, this did help clear the spots. but she now has some spots that have appeared on her face, scalp, hips and top of her arm. I went back to the doctor, they have given me some cream. The spots have crusted over but new ones keep appearing the spots are rather painful when cream is applied. Please help what s your advice.

Hi doctor, in the beginning i had a dry patch behind my lower leg, as i am prone to having very dry patches of skin around my legs and arms. However after having the dry patch behind my lower leg I began to scratch it while i would sleep, however it started leaking fluid and spread to my arms where i had the dry patches but the patches on my arm would form yellow crusts. So i went to my doctor and prescribed me with flucloxacillin antibiotics for a week and diagnosed me with skin infection. However, after one week the rashes did not go away and the doctor diagnosed me with impetigo and gave me flucloxacillin for two weeks. I only finished my given course of two weeks yesterday but it has not had any effect but rather spread the infection as it has formed tiny rashes around the wound where i have scratched it as it gets very itchy. I have been suffering with this for more than two months now and really want to get rid of it and would not want to be given another useless medicine. I also did a blood test and it came out healthy.

I m a recovering meth addict (clean date August 1, 2005.) I mention that information because me getting clean was immediately followed by the appearance of my first boil which was on my spine and golf-ball sized, followed by my next that was the same size, only on my forehead which caused my entire face to swell up and resulted in a 2-week hospital stay as it made me very sick. since then I have probably had at least 50 boils, maybe more. I used to get them all over my body but for the past few years I ve only had them on my face. I have also had reoccuring impetigo (on/below my nose only) for years now that only comes after I have to blow my nose for a day or so due to a cold or allergies, etc. I know staph is the cause of both of these conditions and I ve tried everything to make it better. I am completely hygienic so bad hygiene, as usually cited as a culprit, is not the case for me. I m at my wits end with it all, please help! after a bit of research, I recently discovered that my anemia could be a huge attribute in getting the boils so I ve started taking iron, I ve always taken 833% dv of vitamin c daily to help with the crappy immune system i caused with all of my past drug use; and i also treat the impetigo with bactroban 3x daily for 10 days everytime i get a flare up. I usually treat a boil with are home remedies such as hot compresses, bacon fat, onions, Prid drawing salve, campo phenique, you name it.. I ve also recently switched my normal clear as it face wash with a Walgreens brand antiseptic wash in hopes this might help. I am exhausted and embarrassed with the past 9 years of boils and impetigo and need to know what may be causing the continuance of it all and what I can do to stop it. I ve even contemplated swabbing my nose inside daily with the bactroban cream in hopes that may help

I have frequent MRSA outbreaks on my skin, often as the result of an ingrown hair, irritate white or black head or for seemingly no reason at all. I wash all effected areas with Hibiclens, and I have a doctor prescribed cream that I use afterward. Still, I get them often, and they often seep pus and remain open sores for sometimes months at a time. I really don t know what else to do! Help!

Had surgery on right long finger @ dip joint to reduce osteoarthritis pain. Earlier procedure on left index finger was successful (bones fused). This time bones did not fuse so a bone graft was done. Follow-up x-ray showed bone was a casualty of infection. At no time was the infection visible or painful. Third procedure was done to take out pins, debride area, and take samples for culturing. Results showed staph (not mrsa) infection and fungal infection. Immediately went on fuconazole by mouth and cefazolin infusion. Infections are gone but so is the pin that supported tip of finger. Tip of finger is unstable and requires a splint most of the time. On three-week hiatus. What are options aside from amputation?
