Does IV Insertion Cause Nerve Damage?

I am having a painful dull ache and tingle in my left hand ( wrist, pinkie, ring finger ). I had an IV last night try to be inserted on the top of my forearm and the nurse tried many times wiggling it around with no luck. It was very painful. The IV was then placed on the underside of my forearm also very painful until it was removed 8 hours later. Is it possible to have nerve damage from the IV?

Hi,

Unlikely to cause nerve damage when we put a cannula in superficial veins. If you have any doubt get a direct check up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr B. Radhakrishnan. Nair, OBGYN
