Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good evening. My brother in law has a mental health issue for many years. Recently they put him on Haldol along with the prescriptions Zyprexa and Luvox. I m concerned these are interacting as he has become aggressive, talking with very mixed up conversations with himself and others and is currently in the hospital for dizziness and irregular heart beat. He was just put on the Haldol in the last few weeks. Can these interact negatively? Thank you so much for an answer.
First of all, it's sad to know what your brother had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, he is likely to be having maniac spells due to mania or hypomania which can be due to bipolar disorders. And may need long term lithium.
But at this moment irregular heartbeat is a matter of concern. It may be triggered by drugs but long QT and other arrhythmias need to be corrected before or should be ruled out before starting antipsychotics.
Electrophysiological studies may also be required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
