Does Ashlyna Cause Recurrent Painful Cramps In The Lower Abdomen?

Hi, I’ve been having recurrent, very painful lower abdominal cramps every day for the past week and a half or so. I started taking Ashlyna on July 22nd for heavy and very painful periods after my previous birth control, Tri Lo Sprintec, provided me no relief. I’m wondering if this bad cramping needs to be addressed by my obgyn ASAP or if it’s just a side effect from the new pill.

Hi,

Ashlyna is a brand name if combined contraceptive pill and it can cause cramps as a side effect. Generally, it will settle by itself in a couple of weeks time. As of now, you can take analgesics like mefenamic acid for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
