Do Intake Of Pain Medications Lead To Constipation?

My daughter is on pain meds for a broken ankle. She is splinted up to the groin, awaiting surgery. She has not had a BM in 7 days, using stool softner, laxative, and suppository. She cannot lie on her side to insert a fleet enema. Can this be done standing?

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. Pain medication sill in fact cause very bad constipation, in essence in makes the bowel "go to sleep" so to speak. Whenever prescription pain medications are written a prescription for stool softeners should accompany the same. The fleets enema can be inserted with the patient standing, you just want it to be inserted, and also provide plenty of water as this helps the stool to have the form desired to pass through the gut. I hope this answers your question. Good luck.
