Hi,
Any drugs will have some side effects. We advise them when its benefits outweighs the side effects. These drugs are used to control allergic cough / asthma. Uncontrolled asthma is much more harmful to his growth, compared to drugs. In short, you need not worry about side effects if there is indication. This is used when episodes comes frequently despite avoiding triggers like dust, smoke or cold atmosphere. Children with asthma are sensitive to some food items, which varies widely among children. We need to avoid if a particular item precipitates an attack. Also, avoid refrigerated items when cold.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
