Hello, I missed a week of my birth control pills and had unprotected sex on 10/27/18 and on 10/29/18. I started my birth control pack again today and doubled up and took two pills today my sunday and monday pill. Do I need to take plan B? and is it too late?

Hi,

Though, skipping the birth control pills, increase the chances of pregnancy. Still, usually skipping a few tablets, may still preserve the contraceptive quality to some extent, however, as you have skipped for 7 days. hence your protection against pregnancy, can not be predicted precisely. Definitely, you may be prone to pregnancy. Hence, to be pretty sure, emergency contraceptive pill may be taken.

Though effectivity of this pill is maximum within first 72 hours, after the unprotected sex, still some lesser effectivity, may last for a long time, even up to 5-7 days. Hence, if the emergency pill is taken after a period of more than 72 hours of first unprotected sex (10/27/18), then, you are advised an HPT at least after 7-10 days of your last day of unprotected sex to confirm/rule out pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
