Delayed Periods. Prescribed Duphaston. Reason For This Medicine?

Hello.... My period is 1 week late and my doctor told me to take Duphaston during 10 days... but as far as I understand this medication is to avoid abortion and I sincerely don´t desire to be pregnant at this stage of my life... Can anyone clarify me about this medicine and procedure ? I thank you in advance as I´m having a real difficult time... Patricia

Hi,
Welcome to hCM,
Your period is late by 1 week and I presume pregnancy is certainly ruled out and you have not mentioned your age.
there are many uses of Progesterone tablets.(Duphaston tablets 10mg) that are the result of a lack of progesterone including menstrual disorders like, secondary amenorrhoea (menstrual periods that have stopped, are absent or irregular), dysmenorrhoea or painful periods, premenstrual syndrome and abnormal uterine bleeding.
Duphaston 10 helps re-establish a regular menstrual cycle in conditions where a lack of endogenous progesterone causes menstrual problems, such as in secondary amenorrhoea and abnormal uterine bleeding.
Once you stop these tablets there is withdrawal bleeding.
Please discuss with your Gynecologist
Hope this information helps you.
Please take care
Good Luck.
