Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Low platelet count is called thrombocytopenia and there have been studies where diet has helped in regaining the platelet count. Usually if very low platelet count, then platelets are transfused (blood transfusion) to prevent bleeding. I would suggest eating nutritious diet and drinking lots of plain water, coconut water and fresh fruit juices. The doctor is right that low platelet count does cause bleeding episodes and can be fatal.

Thanks.
