DELAYED SPEECH DEVELOPMENT OF MY 3 YEARS OLD PREMATURE TWIN DAUGHTERS

HI,i have twin daughters who will turn 3 in july,2011. my daughters were born premature( 1 month premature). both have developed normally in other aspects like their crawling, walking, height growth, etc. they are all normal as per the doctors but their speech is delayed. 6 months before (in november 2010) i had them admitted in a play school,at that time their vocabulary was restricted to 5-10 words and they used their babling and few signs to communicate to us although they have a good communication among themselves. they interacted with each other very well but in a language that we cannot understand. i then consulted a speech therapist and she suggested that since the children were normal in all other aspects of growth, may be schooling would help. now after six months of schooling i have noticed a good change in them but they still lag behind. the change in their speech is not at pace with normal kids. my younger twin daughter is my major cause of worry. her problems are -she uses only words to communcate and not sentences -she does not repeat what i ask her to, even if she does it is mere babling -her whatsoever little speech exist is unclear -she cannot remember more than two words to repeat at a time -since she is unable to repeat after me,she loses interest in listening to me and gets involved in some other work -she mostly confuses her relationships, likes calls mumy as mam, papa as mummy, etc. -does not convey anything, like if she goes to a school picnic and i ask her where has she been, she won t say anything -she cannot tell any rhyme, recognise colours, remember counting, tell the name of her classmates, remember her parent s name etc -very limited vocabulary -is often busy in herself, does not care to listen to my instructions. My elder twin daughter has shown more growth comparitively. She has begun to use a few sentences and now relies less on signs and gestures. but her problem is: -she mostly repeats,i.e. cannot frame her own sentences -often confuses people, like calls papa as mummy, mummy as didi etc. -cannot repeat full sentences, only one word at a time, she cannot remember the whole sentence at a time to repeat it -cannot remember even a small nursery rhyme, only is able to repeat it that too one word at a time -her pronounciation is not clear -does not convey anything to me,like does not answer simple questions like what did you have for lunch, what did mam take you today, does not greet her teacher although she can repeat good morning after me -very limited vocabulary -she mosty is not able to put in words what she is feeling, like stomach pain, etc. -cannot remember her classmates names , parents name, etc. but, both of them can now verbally convey their basic needs of water, food, toilet habbits, etc. i am very worried about their delayed speech as after a few months we need to send them to formal school, but in their present condition they would not be able to cope up there. please help!
