Cramps In Abdomen, Had Bleeding, Had Brown Blood Discharge. Cause? Am I Pregnant?
My period was late this month. I had cramping on one side of my lower abdomen for a few hours, on and off. Later, I started bleeding. I haven't bled enough to fill a panty liner, maybe one or two spots, first brown colored and then bright red. Is there anything else that could cause that besides pregnancy? I took a pregnancy test before the bleeding and it said negative.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Anuj Dan's Response
Hi, Brown vaginal discharge is most often associated with old endometrial tissues. In other words, if your period is late you might get a brown, rather than red, discharge. It could also mean that for whatever reason during your last menses the entire uterine lining failed to completely exit. And since your period is late this time round, it is quite likely that its because of dysfunctional endometrial elimination. So as long as other symptoms dont appear, you have nothing to worry about. I hope this answered your question.
