Could Retaining Fat And Smooth Muscles Indicate Lack Of Protein?

I am 62 years young. I ve been exercising daily most of my life, both cardio and strength training. I ve noticed the past year or so that my muscles are no longer smooth. I know I am retaining fat as I don t exercise as hard as I used to due to hip inflammation caused by overuse. Someone said it could be lack of protein and that I don t eat enough. Can you explain?

Thank you for using HCM. Eating healthy is important. Probably change in dietary habits might be the cause of your obesity to confirm further data is needed, height and weight you have not mentioned (BMI should be calculated to ascertain if your obese or not) but if there's been a sudden significant weight gain it needs to be evaluated for clinical conditions such as hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus. If there's no clinical comorbidities except obesity then you can start a weight reduction diet following nutritionist opinion.
