Could Radiation Therapy Used For Treating Breast Cancer Affect People Around?

yes my girlfriend was diagnosed with breast cancer. and she will be getting radiation and the first treatment she will have to stay in the hospitol for 5 to ten days because the doctor said the treatment given to will be comming out of her body and can affect other people. well never heard of that is that true?

Hi and welcome to HCM, thanks for the query.
For external beam radiation therapy, you are NOT radioactive and do not need to take special precautions to protect others from radiation. If there is aradiopharmaceutical in body then there is very small amount of radiation in body and body fluids so some precautious are necessary. However such radiation is active only for several days and rarely there is need for longer hospitalization
