Could Foaming Through Mouth And Nose Be A Matter Of Concern?

I m currently looking after an elderly lady, she appears fine, however whilst sleeping I have noticed white foamy muscus coming from her mouth and nose? She does suffer with aspiratory problems and is on blended and thickened fluids, but she has never foamed from the mouth like this before?? Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
If the elderly lady is unconscious and/or bedridden, she could have accidentally aspirated fluids or foods into her lungs. This can cause a life threatening and serious condition called aspiration pnemonia. If this develops she will have a fever and difficulty breathing. It is better to have her checked out by a doctor who can auscultate her lungs just to be sure she hasn't aspirated anything. Good day.
