Could Dull Chest Pain On Left Side With Bloated Upper Abdomen Be Digestion Issue?

I have been experiencing a dull chest pain on the left side along with bloating near the upper abdomen. This gives a feeling of fullness and prevents me from eating too much. After the chest pain, it is often accompanied by this feeling that food is coming back up my esophagus; however i do not feel nauseous. I have not experienced any burning sensations and it seems to be worse when I lie down. I am assuming it is some digestion issue but am not exactly sure. Any advice on how to treat this problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is challenging to make a diagnosis of chest pain without detailed history and examination. However, the typical complain of worsening discomfort in chest with food intake points towards upper gastric tract pathology. I would suggest you to take over the counter antacids like Gaviscon for symptomatic pain relief. A word of caution, do not over use antacids to avoid side-effects like Milk-alkali syndrome and constipation.

Lifestyle modifications like eating five small meals instead of three big meals, avoiding fried, fatty, spicy food, smoking and limiting consumption of coffee, tea, soda, alcohol, excess dairy and processed food will benefit tremendously. If symptoms worsen or does not subside despite using antacid and following lifestyle modifications; consider consulting your general physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
