Could Diverticulitis And An Enlarged Spleen Be Related?

I have an enlarged spleen. A bone marrow biopsy came out fine. I have recently had a diviticulitus attack treated with antibiotics and broke two ribs a few weeks later. They discovered the enlarged spleen doing CT scans for the diviticulitus, confirmed it with a pet scan. Is there a possible cause effect relationship here? My hematologist wants me back in five months to see if the spleen has gone down in size and for follow up blood work. My internist says I am in a transitional state. I m not sure what he means by that.

Good evening
Sorry to hear about your ill health
Spleen being an important defence organ can be enlarged with any inflammatory condition and which could be diverticulitis in your case
I would suggest you undergo a colonoscopy for evaluation of your diverticulitis once the inflammation settles down
You definetely need a followup for your enlarged Spleen and rib fractures as recommended by your doctor
Wish you a speedy recovery
