Could Consuming Crystal Meth Cause Pneumonia?

My son who is an adult , came down with pneumonia this summer . This took me by surprise, because he has always been very physically active and seemingly in good health. After hearing that my son has been taking crystal meth, my daughter in law said maybe this could be the reason he got the pneumonia. I am wondering is that a possible cause?

yes, in several different ways. Methamphetamine is used as a diet drug because it lowers desire for eating. This often causes malnutrition and decreased ability to fight off infections. Taking methamphetamine in a way involving the lungs (sniffing, snorting etc. ) causes direct lung damage this can be MISDIAGNOSED as an infection and/or lead to breaks in the linings and allow germs to make infections. And, increases likelihood of aspiration (seizures, other falling down unconscious episodes) that cause pneumonia.
