Could Abnormal Sweating In Between The Thighs Be Due To Diuretics?

I was recently prescribed a diuretic due to fluid retention in my feet and legs. It definitely help with evacuating the excess fluid I m my legs, but I think it also causes me to sweat profusely; especially between my legs. I work a physically demanding job and have always sweat a lot, but for the past few days my denim jeans were saturated to the point that my wallet was wet. Does this medication make a person sweat more?

Hi,

Frusemide, a diuretic prescribed to decrease the blood pressure functions by excreting excess salt and water from the body. Since, your job needs lot of energy, wearing jeans makes you heat which may the reason for excess sweating. Frusemide itself excrete salt and water. Sweating may also cause salt loss. Thus, there may chance for easy dehydration without oral fluid replacement for loss. Chances of dehydration is high in individuals on frusemide tablet with diarrhea, excess sweating, vomitting, high grade fever and other modes of fluid loss.

Management of fluid retention depends on the cause. If the condition is acute, frusemide can be taken for short while. But, the drug is not advised for chronic reasons without treating the major cause of concern. Discuss with your doctor about the reason for fluid retention and treatment options. Cardiac conditions, liver failure, renal disorders, or anemia, etc. may be the cause which could be evaluated with blood investigations.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
