Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 13 year old daughter has been diagnosed with sores in her stomach after having an endoscopy. All biopsys and cultures came back negative - no virus or bacteria. She has been suffering for 2 months and lost 20 pounds. No problems with her stool. Very little desire to eat and overall "doesn't feel right". The gastroenterologist has prescribed 40 mg prilosec 2x/day. She's still having pain. Most nights she runs a fever of 100 or higher and then it breaks until the next night.
After extensive blood tests finding nothing, we are to see a infectious disease doctor on Monday because the gastroenterologist would like his input.
One of the only things she has continued to consume is milk products. Could a milk allergy cause sores in the stomach? Do you have any ideas?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Milk and milk products can cause sore stomach, intestinal problems IBS like picture, intolerance and many more problems of varied symptoms and signs and the only best way is to stop milk and milk products and see if this helps. Stool examination including that for milk intolerance for three consecutive days can help further. This can lead to weight loss, loss of appetite in spite of normal reports as you have mentioned. But this is not known much to cause raised temperature to 100 or so. Hence I would advise her the following: Get the stool tests for three consecutive days. Get a CT scan of the abdomen. Blood culture may help to find the cause of fever. Colonoscopy helps further. Broad spectrum antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics on empirical basis may help.
