Thank you for stating your concern
A costochondritis is caused by the irritation of the costal nerve which leads to mild pain, but also taking into account he has High Blood Pressure and a Borderline Diabetic increases his sensitivity to pain, therefore it's important to make sure his blood pressure and sugar levels are withing normal control ranges, a slight increase in either of them might have cause the episode, usually a pain reliever it's enough for costal pain, but if this sort of symptoms continue to developed it should be necessary a physical examination and maybe an adjustment of his medications.
If you have any more questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Best Regards
