Congestion, pain in the throat. Over the counter drugs?

I had a cold 2 weeks ago and the cold went away, except that I still have a little congestion. 5 days ago a strange pain in my throat started and it hasn t gone away. I thought about chest cold but is only in my throat. I have a small baby and don;t want him to get sick. Can I take something for the pain over the counter or should I go see a doctor??
