I have had a persistant cough for about 2months now, especially when i feel chilled and lie down at night in bed. When it first started i had to sleep sitting up as i would choke on phlegm and have a tickle in my throat. i cough so much that my throat is dry and hurts an i make myself vomit. i have to use strong reflexes is my throat o bring the phlegm up from my chest. My mouth is also feeling dry and drinking water does not seem to help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I suggest as following:

- check your blood sugar level - exclude diabetes
- do chest x-ray - exclude asthma or chronic lung disease
- if you are smoking, decide to quit smoking
- get physically examined by an ENT specialist to rule out ENT problems.
- If everything ok, then, consult GI specialist to rule out GERD, gastritis.
- keep good hygiene of your throat (use washing with water and salt and olive oil)

All the best!
