Child Having Red And Painful Eye. Could It Be Hay Fever?

my 2 year old son s eyes suddenly became red and painful this morning. So much so he kept them shut for quite a while. At first I thought he had something in them but couldn t see anything and it was definately both eyes. Someone suggested it could be hay fever but it came on so quickly I m not sure. I tried to wash his eyes with cold water but he screamed and I m not sure it really helped. He seems a bit better now but his eyes are still quite red. Any ideas?

This type of sudden onset especially in a 2 yr active child is generally due to some foreign body that enters the eye. It would not be wise for you to ignore the same.

many times these things get removed by the natural defence mechanisms of the eye itself. if he is ablr to open the eyes normally and the eyes are not tering up, then probably the thing is out of his system. the eye will remian red for some time which is normal.

if he does not open the eye in a hr or two after this thing went in, then its better u see an eye specualist.

hope he gets well soon
