Child Having Fever And Belly Pain. Maims In Sleep. Given Advil. What Can Be Done?
Hi- my son has bad a high fever for 24 hours now- we have been giving him children's Advil. Tonight he was maiming in his sleep. Fever has increased- he's also now complaining of belly pain in lower right hand portion of stomach. He keeps saying he needs to sleep but continues to nano. We are at a hotel out if town. Should we be concerned or let him sleep? Thanks!
Hi and thanks for the query, Advil is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug and simple helps in reducing fever and pain, and does not cure the cause of the symptoms. Its imperative that the child gets examined by a physician. Blood tests like a complete blood count, stool examinations and cultures and urine tests could be very useful in making a clear diagnosis and drawing up an appropriate management plan. Right lower abdominal pain compels exclusion of an acute abdomen, especially acute appendicitis. I suggest you consult your family physician or pediatrician for proper examination and management., and urgently too. thanks and best regards, Luchuo, MD.
