Child Has Visible Veins In Arm, Chest. Complains Of Having Trouble Breathing. Problem?

My 9 year old daughter has had dark visible veins on her left arm, left upper chest and left leg but recently they have become even larger and darker. She looks like someone has drawn on her skin with a marker. She was born full term but had rapid breathing at the time of birth. She complains of having trouble breathing at times. However I contributed this to allergies and being somewhat over weight. Should I take her to the emergency room?

Hi,

The prominent veins could just be normal variant .
However trouble in breathing will need to be tackled at the earliest.

If she has recurrent episodes of breathing trouble with cough then she is likely to be suffering from asthmatic bronchitis .This condition might require short and long term medication in the form of inhalers to control her episodes.

Also you mentioned she is overweight this could also be contributing to her shortness of breathing. So loosing weight could be a good idea and may relief her symptoms.

I would suggest that if she is breathless now you should get her examined by the doctor in ER and discuss with the doctor about the present and long term management also.

Bye
Take care.
