Cause For Variation In The CRP And SGOT?

Hi! I had a full lab workup done a few weeks ago because I have been having some issues with my hands and I thought it might be RA. Everything came back normal except my CRP was 10.5 (10 is the highest for normal range at my lab) and SGOT was 54 u/l ( 36 is the high norm for female). I have not been recently injured and I was not visibly swollen anywhere the day of the test. I have two questions. 1) what could be causing those two things to be higher than normal, and 2) can taking levothyroxine (120 mcg/ day) have an effect on them?

Hello,

CRP levels usually increase when inflammation is present somewhere in the body. If you can't recall any possible inflammation (including teeth problems, inflammatory papules etc) then it could be even a subclinical viral illness. Rheumatoid arthritis also causes a CRP level elevation but this is not specific or diagnostic. Such a slight elevation is not clinically that important most of the times.
SGOT elevation has to do with muscle problems (including the heart muscle) and injuries but it's not that specific either. Have you checked for high creatinine phosphokinase? This is a muscle enzyme that increases in muscle inflammation or destruction. You haven't provided enough clinical information to help me judge whether a muscular problem is likely or not.
Levothyroxine is not supposed to affect them unless you're taking too much and your TSH is almost undetectable.
I hope I've helped!
If you'd like further information, please provide more details about your condition including symptoms and other laboratory testing you might have done.

Kind Regards!
