Can Thyroid Cause Temperature Variations In Body During Winter?
I am a 63 year old female. I take levothyroxine 75mcg for hypothyroid. I also have had a hysterectomy in my late 30s. this winter I have been having feeling of extreme cold but at he same time feel as though I have water dripping on me. at night I get very warm and throw the covers off while all day,i pile clothing on. I had this also last year but seems worse this year. my last blood work was good for thyroid. I have been reducing my caffeine and sugar intake. but I can find no relief and am really miserable.
Good day. Thyroid problems can cause differences in body temepearture. However, you have mentioned that your last Thyroid blood works were normal. In that case, this kind of body heat variation is probably unrelated to Thyroid.
Menopausal symptoms are possible. I noted that you had hysterectomy several years back. But as your Ovaries were intact, they keep producing female hormones. But as you approach menopausal age, the ovaries stop functioning and you will feel hot flashes.
I can't say for sure that, all these symptoms are due to the above reason. I hope you set the room heater at the right temperature at night ( during winter).
If you feel that the above explanations are unlikely the cause of your problems, then you will need further investigations. You may meet your GP who can examine you and suggest further tests.
Kind regards
Binu
