Can Taking Metamucil Be Safe To Treat Pain During Bowel Movement?

I strained trying to use my bowels yesterday. It was eventually successful. I took Metamucil last night and when I used the toilet this morning it was painful. No blood on the paper. What type of cream should I buy today from the chemist. Thanks. Garry

Hi,

Based on the history you seem to have developed anal fissure (small tear in the lining of anus) apparently caused by passing hard stool while straining. I advise you to buy topical anesthetic (lidocaine) containing creams like Proctoglyvenol from the chemist.

It can be applied 2-3 times daily to the affected area before evacuation of the bowels. I also recommend you to eat high-fiber foods, drink fluids and exercise regularly to keep from having to strain during bowel movements.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
