Can Strep Infection Lead To Herpes Like Sores In The Tongue?
My 5 year old daughter had a high temp for 2 days (102-103) and we took ther to the doctor yesterday because she was complaining her tongue hurt and her throat really bad. Looked a little red, with little red dots (looked like broken blood vessels) in the upper back of her mouth. Tongue looked fine. Doctor told us she most likely has hand, foot and mouth disease but did a strep test anyway and it came back positive. He medicated her for strep. Today, she has 3 sores on her tongue and is complaining that her entire tongue is burning but mostly the tip. No temp today. Any clue what this is? He said over the phone today that the sores are most likely a form of herpes that came out because her immune system is low due to strep. Is this true? My poor kid needs some relief.
Hi. Thanks for elucidate history. From your history this looks to be a case of aphthous ulcers, and they do occur due to reduced resistance during any major illness. You can give her soothing mouth paints, can have mouth rinse with xylocaine viscuss to reduce the pain - but tell your daughter that the whole mouth gets numb. So you can apply with cotton buds to the affected area only. Continue the treatment your Doctor has given. See the child is well hydrated.
