Can Sharp Pains And Cramping Feelings In Lower Stomach Be Symptoms Of Menstruation?

Hi I took a pregnancy test last week (when I was one week late) and it came back negative now I m 2 weeks late for my period as well as other pregnancy symptoms, but most of today and all tonight I have had sharp pains and cramping feelings in my lower stomach and sides but it doesn t feel like my normal menstrual cramps when I get my period.. Also I m never late for my period, Just wondering if you had any ideas as I don t want to go to the hospital late at night if it s not really needed..thank you
