Can Regular Intake Of Alcohol Post Open Heart Surgery Cause Chest Pain?

I had undergone open heart surgery in 2005/take 70 to 100 ml of alcohol regularly each day. Went for a long drive ( 7 hrs) sitting and playing bridge for some 6 hrs yday - I avoid taking medicines like dilzem sr,atorvastatin/ecospirin etc.,Night itself I experienced pain while lying down (just below my right lung). This morning also getting up I felt pain in that area. Would like to know what are the possible causes?

Hello,

You have history of having an open heart surgery done. You have been having alcohol. At night you experienced chest pain (Right side) while lying down. You have pain in the morning also. Regular intake of alcohol after an open heart surgery may bring complications in your heart health.

Alcohol is a source of excess calories and a cause of weight gain that can be harmful in the long term. Drinking alcohol regularly can have a negative effect post surgery. Excessive alcohol intake or regular alcohol intake commonly causes high blood pressure that may lead to complications like heart failure or stroke.

Excessive or regular drinking can also contribute to cardiomyopathy, a disorder that affects the heart muscle. The effects on your liver and immune system directly affects your body’s ability to heal. Alcohol intake can trigger infections, delay wound healing and cause chest pain or discomfort or lung problems.

You are suggested to get a thorough cardiac check up done. Get all the cardiac function tests done including lipid profile, stress test, echo, EKG, X-ray, etc., to stay on the safer side. You will be accordingly treated. Get connected to a detox center.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
