Can Reduction In Alcohol Intake Decrease The Elevated Liver Enzymes Levels?
Hi I just spoke with my 39 y/o daughter who is alcoholic. She was able to stop drinking after going to in pt. rehab a few years ago. However she has relapsed and has been drinking over the past year. She just had blood work done and her AST/GOT is 257 and her ALT/GPT is 259. Can the liver enzymes go down if she stops drinking alcohol ?
Yes, and the liver heals somewhat. Since cirrhosis is (literally, it is the Latin for it) scarring, there is some cirrhosis that still occurs after all alcohol is stopped. BUT that has an end to it if the alcohol is stopped and does not have an end if alcohol is continued.
