Can Long Term Usage Of Ambien Tablet Cause Chronic Anemia?

I have been diagnosed as anemic due to chronic blood loss. After medical tests the cause has not been detected. Next test would be a bone marrow test. I am 66 years old and have been on ambien for 7 years. Could ambien be the cause? My platelet count is also high.

Anemia due to chronic blood loss could be because your body do not make enough red blood cells and destroys more red blood cells. Tablet Ambien which you have been taking since 7 years very rarely can cause chronic anemia. This tablet can cause severe allergic reaction along with swelling of face. lips, tongue.

As your platelet count is high most probable chances for anemia along with this is due to bone marrow disorder. Your bone marrow start producing cells which increase platelet production. Bone marrow has stem cells which produce R.B.C, W.B.C and platelets. Chronic inflammatory diseases can also cause anemia.

I would suggest you to go for bone marrow test as prescribed by your physician. Bone marrow test can only identify the cause for high platelet count is because of thrombocythemia or thrombocytosis and then your treatment can be started accordingly.
