Can Isotretinoin Cause Decrease In Vaginal Lubrication?

Hi Doctor,I am a 28 yr old woman married for the past 4 months. My sexual desire over the last 2 years has been alarmingly low ever since my acne treatment with oral isotretinoin (10 mg per day) for about 4months (March-July 2011), prescribed by a dermatologist. Unfortunately, I also noticed an inability to orgasm and considerable decrease in vaginal lubrication compared to what it used to be before this treatment. I was hoping that everything will be back to normal after I stop taking the medicine however, these symptoms seem to have persisted until now. I used to have a robust libido and used to masturbate frequently and reach orgasm successfully almost everytime. There was a lot of vaginal lubrication post-masturbation. I experience pain during intercourse due to which my husband has not been able to penetrate into my vagina. I seem to have lost my sex life as a result of this treatment. Can you please tell me is there anything that can be done? Have you encountered such isotretinoin-induced problems before? Could all this be due to some other reason? Can you please help me? I am very worried about this. I would be extremely grateful if you can reply to me by e-mail.

Hi,
I have read your query & got your point of concern.
Isotretinoin is known to cause dryness of skin & mucus membrane. But the side effect is corrected by 1 year of stopping the course.
In case it persists after that, you need to consult sexologist/endocrinologist,
provide them your past complaint & treatment & also dryness you had after the treatment
Local lubrication & supplementing Vitamin A,E can be tried till then.
Thanks
