Can I Go Back To Work Despite Having Thrombophilia?

I ve had a stroke, DVT, and P.E in the past. I have thrombophilia or prothrombin gene mutation G20210A. I m seeking disability because of my reoccurring tendency to clot.My docter hasn t let me work or drive for a year and I have never received benefits. I want to go back to work, is a blood clotting disorder a disability? I understand if I don t maintain my diet and INR checks I could clot again.

Hello. Welcome to HCM.
It's unfortunate that you have been suffering from clotting disorder.

Yes. That's true that you should avoid prolong driving or air travel to prevent recurrent thrombosis, but if you maintain your INR between 2-3 then there is less chances of getting again clotting in lungs or veins.

So, my advice to you is -

You can now start driving for few distance and should also start to work as prolong rest also precipitates clotting. But you have to take anticoagulant medicines for whole life.

It's true that if you don't make restrictions in diet and not maintaining INR then you have again chances of clotting but if you maintain proper INR and avoid prolong sitting you will be safe. So, be careful and gradually start your work again.
Best of luck for future life.
Thank you.
