I recently had a daughter a month ago on 3/19/2015 , I am breastfeeding her and yes I got a fever of 103.7 and today it is 99.3. My question is should I still breastfeed while I have a fever or give her the bottle. Also I have been getting dizzy and feeling light headed.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. Even if mother has fever, she can feed her baby.. with following precautions - Take medicines prescribed for the illness properly, - should maintain her nutrition/ hydration well. It is advisable to drink a cup of milk/ soup/ juice , at least water- before feeding baby. . - Take all the precautions; while feeding & avoid passing infection to baby( Like wearing mask in cough/cold, washing hand properly, wearing clean cloths.) Only in case of skin involvements in infectious diseases like small pox/ chicken pox/ scabies-- where skin contact is to be avoided, she can feed expressed milk to her baby collected aseptically. Thanks.
