Can Hyperthyroidism Cause Weight Gain For A 73-year-old Male?
I have a strong family history of hypothyroidism. I was diagnosed with it quite sometime ago and had half of my thyroid removed in 2001. I am a 73 year old female and have been on Synthroid for many years. I have been feeling emotional, restless, short-tempered, etc. I went in for my physical and my doctor said that I am currently hyperthyroid and she has ordered a new strength of Synthroid. I will go from .125 to .100 if I understood her correctly. Articles that I have read say that hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss. I am quite the opposite and have been eating more than I have ever eaten in my life! I have gained lots of weight. Lots of trauma going on in both my husband s & my families.
