Can Hemorrhoid Be The Cause For Blood In The Stool?

Yesterday morning early (1:30 am) I woke from sleep and needed to use the restroom. For the next several hours the bathroom was my bestfriend. I started to pass blood after about 8 hours of having several bowel movements, I also have had some cramps with this. I have had history of hemmorids. Could the blood be from the hemmorids? I stoped this morning for the most part but still have the cramps. WHat are your thoughts?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if hemorrhoid be the cause for blood in the stool . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like anal fissure constipation , colon polyps , crohn's disease and colitis , but in your case the symptoms are due to hemorrhoids . I would suggest you to eat light and non spicy food , add more fibrous food in your diet like fruits and vegetables , drink plenty of water and consult gastroenterologist for proper examination and rule out other conditions . Doctor may refer you to general surgeon for surgical removal of hemorrhoids and in the mean while doctor will prescribe antibiotics for infection in hemorrhoids and anti inflammatory .
