Can Depression Lead To Chronic Loose Motions?

My sister in law is into depression due to divorce with the partner in 2002. She generally tries to be in dark, covers her face while going out, is afraid of males, hardly goes out of the house and does not have faith in her parents. She is stubborn, keeps uttering incoherent words in the background while people are watching TV. She was put on homeo medicines around a year back as she was suffering from chronic loose motions and had lost lot of weight. Physically she appears to be okay now but is mentally not her natural self. She is still hopeful that her husband will come back to her knowing very well that he is already remarried. Kindly advise. Thanks

Psychiatrist 's  Response
You should take your sister-in-law to a psychiatrist.
She may be suffering from depression which is a treatable medical condition. Uttering incoherent words suggests a psychotic illness.
A psychiatrist will be able to evaluate her properly. He/she may order some blood tests to find any medical issues that may cause or exacerbate her illness. (Her chronic loose motions may be symptom of the same condition that causes her mental symptoms or it may be unrelated. Anxiety and depression are known to sometimes cause dyspeptic symptoms such as nausea, diarrohea, bloating etc).
Then the psychiatrist will counsel your sister-in-law and suggest treatment including medicines.
Your sister-in-law's personal and social life is severely affected. It is also clear that she is in immense distress. With proper psychiatric treatment, she may be able to accept her situation, get insight into her problem and get back to a productive and normal life.
I hope this answer is helpful.
