Can Child Hood Electrical Shock Injury Cause Hypertension And Chest Pain?

When I was 18 months old, I received an electrical burn under my left arm. My arm went over a spliced electrical cord on a TV set that was plugged into the wall. The surge went in and out, leaving 2 large holes under my arm, requiring over 100 stitches. 44 years later, could I be experiencing after effects of this electrical burn in my chest area. I have uncontrolled hypertension and have went through stress tests, CT scans, and most recently a heart cath - all negative. I m frustrated and want to find an answer, as the chest pain is ongoing and it is common for my BP to run 140 s over 90 s despite taking Procardia, Clonidine and Toprol XL. Thank you.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to anxiety or a spinal cord disorder. For this reason, I would recommend performing a spinal cord MRI study. In the meantime, I would recommend trying Pregabalin for the pain or Cymbalta.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
