Can Bleeding In Tonsils Be Related To Low Platelet Count?

Hi. Around 4 months ago my blood platelet count was only 1000. The doctors never found a solution for this and my platelet count did rise eventually. They didn't find any petechia, but when I was 9 years old I did have some and the doctors thought that maybe I had the same low platelet count then. I did have a slight fever 4 months ago and my tonsils had cuts which bled nonstop and that's why we went to the blood tests to see if I had tonsillitis, but it was negative. Through the blood tests they found out about the low blood platelets. I am still curious about what it might be.I am a 14 going 15 year old girl.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Tonsilitis does not usually cause low platelet count
2. Viral infection causing secondarily ITP is usually the common cause of low platelet count.
3. Bone marrow biopsy evaluation will help in confirmation, if ITP is the cause.
4. Platelet of 1000 is too severe and will need platelet transfusion to avoid internal bleeding risk. It was possibly ITP or immune thrombocytopenic purpura.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
